How it all began: It seems a long time since Hurghada was nothing more than a small fishing village and modest shipyard ignored by the rest of the world, including the Egyptians. In fact, it is only in the last ten years that Hurghada has grown into a town of 35,000 inhabitants to become the most popular seaside resort in the country.
Today’s Hurghada with its lively atmosphere, sea activities and the multitude of ship wrecks, it has become one of the top and favorite resort among Egyptians and visitors from around the world who love sunshine, sea and diving.
The city: Hurghada map is divided today into 3 key districts: Al Dahar (Ar: الدهار); the old part of Hurghada and home to the traditional Souq, the Tourist Office, Post Office and the Bus Station. This is also the main district for local nightlife and locals living quarter, while the beach side part include a number of touristic hotels and resorts.
A second central downtown nearer to the airport which is Sekkala (Ar: السقالة) is located around the old harbor dotted with stores, shopping centers, budget hotels, eateries and bars, all of which never sleep all night long.
An extended long street from Sekkala is called the Hotels Zone (Ar: طريق القرى) and covers the major part of the modern Hurghadian map and has plenty of the luxurious beachfront resorts, as well as the Hurghada Promenade (established 2005). This is also a link street to the southern Sahl Hasheesh, Makadi Bay, Soma Bay, Safaga, El Quseir and Marsa Alam.
Al Ahiaa (Ar: الأحياء المائية) is the new developed northern part of Hurghada stretched along the coastal road to El Gouna, Gamsha Bay new project, Zaafarana, Suez and Cairo. There are only a small number of native residents and a lot of hotels, some of which are still under construction.
Together, these communities and resort areas offer just about everything a visitor might wish for, from raucous parties to isolated scuba diving, with golf, bowling and fishing in between.. |
